Helping Veterans #GetBanked and Manage Their Money

This event is intended for Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) special Outreach Program Coordinators to learn about the VA, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (FDIC), and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) resources to assist Veterans with opening bank accounts and managing their personal finances. Attendees will also receive training on FDIC’s “Money Smart for Adults” financial education curriculum.
The FDIC, VA, and CFPB will co-sponsor this event to kick off National Veterans and Military Families Month and provide resources to VSOs and VA special Outreach Program Coordinators who provide direct services to U.S. Veterans and have a direct interest in increasing Veterans’ financial capability. Attendees will receive a “Train the Trainer” session on FDIC’s financial education curriculum Money Smart for Adults and will learn how to customize the Money Smart materials for their specific audience. The webinar will also include an overview of the VA’s Veterans Benefits Banking Program (VBBP) and webpage, the FDIC’s #GetBanked initiative and webpage, the CFPB’s banking resources on knowing your options and your rights, and explain how featured resources can help Veterans find a bank account that fits their individual needs.
