Military banks across the country are participating in Military Saves Week this week! Most of them offering an array of products and services to help servicemembers and their families save more effectively. The list below provides a glimpse into what the military banks are doing to support military savers.
Armed Forces Bank N. A. (60 on-installation branches)
Financial Education Activities
- Several banking centers are coordinating with installation commands and organizations (FRC, PFMs, Community Services, etc.) to expand the reach and impact of MSW 2015 to include proclamation signing events, table events, financial education seminars/classes, and publications via local installation social media and papers.
- Banking centers at Fort Bliss, TX and Fort Riley, KS have events scheduled with on installation and local school districts to promote MSW 2015 amongst youth. Both banking centers will give several presentations at schools and promote the value of MSW 2015 as well as what the Military Saves pledge is.
Community Involvement
- The CFPB OSA, represented by Ms. Holly Petraeus, is holding executive roundtable events as part of MSW 2015 at Fairchild AFB, WA and Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA. Armed Forces Bank will participate in both events (24 February 2015 and 26 February 2015, respectively).
Fort Hood National Bank
Financial Education Activities
- Bank representatives will conduct numerous Financial Awareness presentations to military units across Fort Hood with special emphasis on the importance of saving.
- Set-up Military Saves Pledge Booths in each of our on-post banking centers, being manned by Command Financial Specialists, representatives from Fort Hood Financial Readiness Branch, and our bank employees.
Financial Products
- Offer our Military Savings Account which has an added incentive of a one-time bonus of up to $100. The bonus will be paid if all account requirements are met, see our Military Saves Program brochure for details.
Community Involvement
- Provide a dedicated computer in each of our branches specifically for the Military Saves On-line Pledges.
- Donate $150.00 worth of prizes to the Fort Hood Financial Readiness Branch to be awarded to winners of their Financial Bingo game. We will also have the Financial Bingo cards available in the lobbies of all our branches.
- Provide the coins to Fort Hood Financial Readiness Branch to fill their “piggy banks” that will be used as one of their financial games.
- Send an email blast to our customers, will be distributing 10,000 flyers and posters will be placed in our branches, and our electronic signs will have messages that promote the Military Saves campaign.
- Provide logistical support to the Fort Hood Financial Readiness Branch by providing use of our lobbies and providing speakers for their Financial Workshops to promote Military Saves Week.
Fort Sill National Bank – (6 on-installation branches)
Financial Education Activities
- Financial Management/Savings Presentations to new recruits at Fort Sill, Sheppard AFB, Parris Island, Barksdale AFB, Dover AFB and 29 Palms (6 locations). Presentations provide literature on the pitfalls of off base/post services such as pay day loans, rent to own, and overdraft. Ways to save such as coupons and avoiding eating out were introduced in the classes.
Financial Products
- Pledge to Save: If a soldier sets up an AFT of at least $25 to any FSNB account, we will donate $5 to the organization of their choice. Take the pledge to begin saving today and we will donate $1 to the organization of the soldiers/airmen’s choice. The choices will be: Air Force Aid Society. Army Emergency Relief. Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society.
Community Involvement
- Sponsoring an essay contest for an elementary school 5th/6th grade class on the importance/benefits of saving and what it means to them and their families. The prize is a free savings account with a starting balance of $25.00 (donated by FSNB).
Wells Fargo Bank (9 on-installation branches)
Financial Education Activities
- We have volunteers and other non-profit partners that teach financial education during the week and throughout the year. Classes are provided locally in groups and/or one on one from certified financial counselors through a special grant to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. Webinars are available for military members to join from wherever they are to participate in one of ten modules in our state of the art Hands on Banking for Military (www.handsonbanking.org) financial education program.
- Our on installation banks and banks in communities with high military and veteran populations participate in Military Saves week with events, awareness and flyers about savings and overall financial readiness.
