Association of Military Banks of America

Each year the Association of Military Banks of America (AMBA) holds a Spring Workshop in May coinciding with the annual Spring Luncheon.  In addition, AMBA holds an Annual Fall Workshop.  The 2015 AMBA Annual Fall Workshop will be held August 31 – September 2 in Leesburg, VA a short drive from Washington D.C.  Click on the links below for more information.

For over fifty-five years, AMBA has been the exclusive military banking trade association servicing the banking community and our nation’s armed forces. Through its mission of promoting financial independence and readiness, AMBA led the nation’s banking industry in working with the Department of Defense to implement major payday lending legislation which provides protections for service members and their families from potentially abusive lending practices and products, while preserving the availability of credit products and services that are beneficial and are the hallmark of military banks. AMBA conducts annual Fall and Spring Workshops for its members and government officials overseeing military banking.  The AMBA Fall Workshop is a three day program that provides an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss the latest banking issues affecting the service members.

The Banking Liaison Officers play a critical role in implementing the DoD Military Banking Program.  AMBA provides a forum for BLO training by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service and Service Department BLOs for installation BLOs that attend the Workshop. Installation Bank Liaison Officers are encouraged to attend the annual AMBA Fall Workshop and authorization is found in paragraph 340305.O., 340307.G. and 340508.C., Volume 5, Chapter 34, March 2013, of the DoD Financial Management Regulation.

AMBA also hosts the Military Departments Distinguished Bank Service Awards and the newly established Military Saves Week Award. The Military Departments Distinguished Bank Service award is established and presented by each Military Department to a commercial bank operating on its installation.  The winners were chosen as the banks that demonstrated above and beyond commitment to providing exceptional service, financial leadership, and community outreach in support of their military communities. The Military Saves Week Award is presented to banks on installations who participated in Military Saves Campaign Week. These prestigious Awards will be presented at the 2014 AMBA Fall Workshop.
