AMBA Supports AFCPE and FINRA Military Spouse Fellows

2015AFCPEThe Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) is one of the organizations AMBA is honored to support financially. AFCPE is a non-profit, international, professional membership organization dedicated to improving personal financial management education, training, and certification of financial counselors, educators, and other related practitioners.

AFCPE’s purpose is to develop the profession of personal finance by promoting linkages among financial educators, practitioners, researchers, and other relevant groups.  AFCPE also works to enhance the profession of personal finance by providing professional development that provides opportunities for

  • Educators: to promote best practices, innovative approaches, and effective delivery to students, individuals and families
  • Practitioners (counselors and advisors): to promote best practices, innovative approaches, and effective intervention and prevention for individuals seeking assistance or advice, and
  • Researchers: to design, conduct, and disseminate research that identifies effective intervention strategies, addresses critical issues, and expands the knowledge base upon which the profession is built.

AFCPE also informs consumers, professionals and policymakers about personal finance issues and develops leaders in the profession of financial counseling and planning education.

Each year, AFCPE, along with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, awards the FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship to military spouses who seek to attain their AFC® (Accredited Financial Counselor) certification with support from the National Military Family Association.  AFCPE along with the FINRA Foundation have been providing this fellowship opportunity to military spouses since 2006 awarding over 1,400 fellowships.

AMBA’s contribution to AFCPE helps support FINRA Military Spouse Fellow attendance at the annual AFCPE Symposium.  The symposium provides Fellows with continuing education credits or practicum hours for their accreditation.

In December 2015, The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) granted accreditation to the AFCPE’s AFC® (Accredited Financial Counselor®) program.  The NCCA Standards were created in 1977 and updated in 2003 to ensure certification programs adhere to modern standards of practice for the certification industry.  AFCPE joins an elite group of more than 120 organizations representing over 270 programs that have received and maintained NCCA accreditation.
