In a previous blog we focused on banks that operate within the gates of the installation, or on-base. However, it does seem important to note that there is a whole other group of banks who have special programs, services, and products designed for the life of a servicemember and their family that operate all over the county. These banks may operate outside the gates and some even exist only on-line without bricks and mortar of traditional banking centers. Servicemembers realize the need of banks providing services no matter where they might be; what state, country, or deployed location.
Many of the big banks offer financial education that is directed to the military in addition to specialized services. If you are a customer of a bank that is not located on a military installation consider finding out what opportunities, products and services may be offer specifically to servicemembers and their families.
The most important thing you can do when it comes to your finances is be educated. We are not trying to suggest that you become a financial professional, however, knowing what you need to know to make decisions on behalf of your own financial future is imperative. Some of this education may include shopping for your financial services and products to get the best deal. This may include looking at your on-installation financial institution as well as those located off the installation. Knowing your choices and spending a little time researching, much like you would when shopping for a high-priced consumer product, could really pay off in the long run.
Whatever financial institution you decide to bank with, remember, you have options. Choose what works right for you and your family. But remember, you don’t have to be an exclusive customer of one institution!
